Built at Piper’s Lock Haven, Pennsylvania plant between 1938 and 1947, nearly 20,000 were produced, and thousands remain airworthy today. The Cub taught America to fly, serving as the primary trainer of the Civilian Pilot Training Program and putting roughly 80 percent of wartime military pilots through their first flights.
